Bula from Fiji!

This post features student writing.

After long awaited warm weather, our group arrived at our resort in the Coral Coast, Fiji. Day one was an opportunity to relax and explore our hotel. While some students looked for shells at the beach, others kayaked and made coconut necklaces with the crafts team. Samson even got a massage! We ate our meals buffet style and tasted delicious rice and various meat dishes. At night we came together for our daily group meeting before hanging out as a group by the pool, sipping on virgin strawberry daiquiris. Day two was even more exciting!!! We walked across sand dunes where the Fijian rugby team trains and then headed over to a larger beach in the afternoon. For lunch we got Indian food, suggested by our local guides and it was great! At the beach we swam and rode waves in the warm water. Our group returned to the hotel in time for our first ever kava ceremony, a traditional Fijian drink with sleepy effects. The following morning began with another ceremony in a nearby village. We immersed ourselves in the culture and had an amazing time playing with school children. Back at the hotel we entertained ourselves by gathering coconuts and playing pool newcomb. Many of us also treated ourselves to an Oreo cheesecake with chocolate ice cream. Yummy! Finally, this morning we went surfing for two hours at a nearby resort. Everyone took a few tumbles, but it was a great time. We even made friends with the instructors! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for our final days on this beautiful island.
